Six Painless Ways to Save Plenty of Water💧

Rapid increase in world population + decline in freshwater resources + mismanagement and waste of water + uncontrolled pollution = threat to the survival of humanity on earth. Isn't it imperative that we take serious action if we are to prolong human life on this planet? Let's start small - directly from our own household. 1. Repair drip taps The bathroom is the place with the highest water consumption in the house. Leak water 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Did you know that a leaky faucet can waste enough water to fill a bathtub every week, almost 32 liters / day? In most cases, all that is required is an inexpensive washing machine, which is more than sufficient to stop such leaks. 2. Detect leaking toilets Even the smallest leak in your toilet can waste 500 liters of water a day. Regular checks can easily spot invisible leaks. Just add a few drops of food coloring to your toilet tank. Even without a single flush, it means you've successfully investigated a leak i...

Are the Reviews on Amazon India Real? Growing Danger!

The number of fraud checks has grown massively, and the problem with fake reviews is now worse than ever.

Sites like Amazon, TripAdvisor, Airbnb etc. have become very successful because of the trust created by their rating systems. In order to increase sales, only a few sellers on Amazon decide to buy reviews or offer free samples in exchange for "honest" reviews. This has severely skewed the rating system, creating artificially inflated product ratings.

What are fake reviews?

Reviews posted either by employees of the company themselves or by people with a vested interest in selling additional products or by competitors trying to reduce product sales.

  • If the review were written by a friend, the review panel could include descriptions such as wonderful, inexpensive, suitable for everyone, etc., and the reviewer could imply that they are planning to buy it for someone they know too.

  • If the review was written by an enemy, the product may contain rough descriptions such as pathetic, poor, or a waste of money. The reviewer can recommend an alternative product ("has more credibility") that they liked better.

Rampant fake reviews

All of Amazon's promised efforts to pursue and remove incentives released in exchange for free or discounted products have sent the problem underground. Fake reviews are still prevalent but now harder to spot. The above image is a snapshot of an offer from an Amazon seller.

My case
I received this listing when purchasing a women's backpack after thoroughly checking the reviews (verified). The backpack was of course faulty. Now, I very much doubt the credibility of any 5-star reviews given to the product as a result of this listing announcement that was neatly folded in the Amazon packaging.
Here comes my question: does Amazon support this?

  • If so, how can we expect an honest review from someone who is reviewing for cashback purposes only?

  • If not, why was this product package not suspected of Amazon quality checks (Prime product)?

I directed the same question to the Amazon support team and received a response that my report was forwarded to the relevant department and that my refund can be issued if necessary. Yes, I definitely need my refund. Shouldn't the actions taken following my report be transparent? Amazon.in should definitely take care of that.

How do I find a fake review?

This incident led me to investigate how to spot a fake review. As a shopaholic, this is essential to me and I think useful to other online shopping addicts. So here is what I collected

1. Review the verification tool

Use websites like Reviewmeta.com and Fakespot.com Analyze ratings for all products listed on shopping platforms and provide a rating for the authenticity of the ratings. Read reputable review websites.

2. Analyze the evaluation balance

When a product is exceptionally good / extraordinarily bad, product reviews are almost exclusively either one star or five stars. A best product generally has a healthy mix of 5 and 4 stars, with 3 stars being given.

3. Trust middle ratings

If the product is generally good, the reviews may have a bell-shaped curve. This is mainly because "you can't please everyone". In general, ignore the highest and lowest ratings. Mostly see what the people in the middle have to say. This should give you a more accurate assessment of the product.

Help other consumers

Report suspicious reviews

Look at the suspect's reviews. If a review contains spam / offensive language that is against Amazon.com's review policy, click the "Report Abuse" link (near "Was this review helpful to you?"). This enables us to "report this content as inappropriate". State the reason for your suspicion. This will help Amazon employees evaluate the review in question and take appropriate action.

Apply critical thinking

Keep this in mind whether or not you share a reviewer's opinion on the product, especially if the review is thoughtful and well-written. Even people who disagree with you may have valid points. These ratings definitely justify a "helpful" click.
